Keeping your New Year Resolution

Have a new year resolution but cannot seem to keep it?

Try this..

For Guys

Men are motivated when they set a goal for themselves.

Say, when you need motivation to exercise, it would help to place a photograph of an appealing fitness model at a prominent place.

Focus on how much better life will be for you might also help.

For the Ladies

You could fulfill your new year resolution when you tell your friends and family. Ladies could succeed better when they are encouraged to persist in the face of setbacks.

The Notebook Movie

Hmmm, never too late to review a movie.

The Notebook is a release in 2004 by New Line Cinemas adapted on the novel, The Notebook, by Nicholas Spark.

Movie Plot/ Synopsis

The movie starts by having an old gentleman reading to his companion from a old notebook. It depicts a beautiful tale of a set of teenagers, Allie and Noah, engaging in a lovely summer romance. They had to part because of differences and objections from Allie's upper-class mother.
Reading to Allie

Really touched when Noah wrote a letter to Allie everyday for a year without any reply. That is 365 letters but Allie never get them at once. After a year, Noah stopped writing letter.

Noah was recruited in to army and Allie pursued her studies. Noah went into World War II. Coming back from the War, Noah lost his father. Noah's father had left him his dream house. A dream house that Noah rebuilt to the exact specifications that Allie had wanted. It was really a torn down, old house with a lakeside view.

Just as when Allie was in a "perfect" relationship with a military officer of a good background. Allie saw the news of Noah and the dream house. Allie could not forget and went to seek Noah. Only at this time, then Allie realized that Noah had not give her up. Only then does Allie get back the HUGE bundle of letters from her mother, who has been keeping it from her.
Young Allie with her bundle of 365 Letters

As the old gentleman was reading to his companion, its becomes apparent that the old lady suffering from Alzheimer is awaken by the story and for a short moment remembers that the old gentlemen reading from the notebook is Noah.

Towards the end of the movie, it is clear that Allie finally chose Noah over the wealthy businessman that she was engaged to. They had 4 kids but she could not remember any.
Noah and Allie reunited after the World War, and Allie making a choice.

Quotes from the movie

Anne: She is out foolin' around with that boy until two o'clock in the morning and it has got to stop! I didn't spend seventeen years of my life raising a daughter and giving her EVERYTHING, so she could throw it away on a summer romance!
Young Allie: [Screaming] DADDY!
Anne: She will wind up with her heart broken or pregnant! Now he's a nice boy, but he's...
Young Allie: He's WHAT? He is what? Tell me!
Anne: He is trash! Trash! Trash! Not for you!

Young Allie: Now, say you're a bird.
Young Noah: If you're a bird, I'm a bird.

Why This Blog Entry

1. Because I see the story of a friend being forced to leave his girlfriend, someone whom he loves a lot because the mother rejects the whole relationship. (See quote 1 above)

2. Remember Titanic's , You jump, I jump? Ain't it so similar from quote 2?

3. Simply because the story is beautiful.

Price of Singapore Flyer observation wheel

Each ride will last about 37 minutes.

The operator says tickets will be priced at S$29.50 for an adult; express and cocktail packages will also be available at between S$52 and S$69.

The Singapore Flyer aims to attract some 2.5 million visitors a year of which 60 percent will be tourists.

Wow, I'm really excited by the fact that this observation wheel will be in Singapore. It is the tallest and largest Observation Wheel in the world. The Singapore Flyer will be making lots of money man.

Details on its official website here

Factfile on Observation Wheels around the World

And another attraction will be catching the Formula one race on top of the Singapore Flyer. Prices may escalate to as high as $200. All right, see, I do not need to go far to catch formula one. Cool.

Traveling Young

So I supposed almost everyone had a dream destination to go to.

Some friends are currently in Korea now, one will be traveling to Japan with his girlfriend and another will be spending Christmas at year end.

Simply put, this December, my friends are everywhere but in Singapore.

How important is it to achieve and travel young?

1. Traveling young, Our Money runs out before our ENERGY.

2. Traveling when we are much older, with kids tying yo down back at home. This may be the time your ENERGY runs out before your money.

You decide how you want to make a LIFE for yourself. Yo lose some, you gain some.

Remember: Staying at home will make you fat.

Oh..back in October, I was in Taiwan, Taipei and come November, Wanlin was in Singapore. To catch on the Christmas Spirit. We were at Vivio City to celebrate Kit's Birthday. Really, this is the one half body length shot we had. Seems like the next time I see her again will be some years ahead.

Take care. Friend..

Mt Fuji anybody?

Now, if you’re a foreigner in Japan, your Japan experience is just not complete without the trip up the mountain. For those who have never done it before, it’s an amazing experience. For those of us who have done it before, well… we’re still tired.

Mt. Fuji is located about due west of Tokyo, just a couple hours drive. Amazingly enough, you can see it on a clear day even where I am in Chiba, east of Tokyo. It’s that big! Also, the Kanto plain is that flat.
Mt. Fuji is 3776 meters high at the top. In American feet, that’s more than 12,000. Yes, we’re talking about climbing up that baby. It’s an all day climb. If you just started hiking and didn’t stop to rest, which would be crazy, it would probably take under 5 hours. With breaks and all, you’re looking at 8 or so.
To the Japanese people, Mt. Fuji is a symbol of everything Japanese. Actually, most people have never climbed Mt. Fuji. For most people, seeing it is enough. There’s a saying I hear every time I mention climbing Mt. Fuji, “You’re a fool if you don’t climb Mt. Fuji once; You’re a real fool if you climb it twice.” I misquoted it, of course, because I don’t remember the exact words, but the point is that it’s something that you have to do once. Twice, and you must be insane.
The great thing about the climb is that you don’t have to do it all. There are stations as you go up, and you can stop at any one and head back. The fifth station is considered halfway, and lots of climbers call it quits there. I will say this: it’s a HARD climb. And, it’s not as pretty as you might think. You will be hiking through big plains of black volcanic rocks for the most part. But, it’s all worth it in the end.
Here are few tips and warnings…
- Bring sunscreen. Some of my friends have come back from their Mt. Fuji climb purple. This is what they told me, “Bring sunscreen.”
- Climb at night and get there for the sunrise. I know, that means walking up a mountain all night, and you may miss some pretty scenery. But, I’ve heard from lots of people that the night climb is worth it for the most spectacular sunrise you’ll ever see.
- It’s cold up there. I don’t care if you pick the hottest day in July, it’s only hot at the bottom. Definitely take jackets or you will freeze your butt off at the top.
- Bring food, water and some changes of clothes. I recommend a couple of shirts and pairs of socks. Wear something comfortable (not jeans). Definitely bring some basic first aid stuff at least.
- Check the weather before you go! There are some horror stories out there about rain and hail on the way to the top. If you have any adverse weather, you’re probably better off heading back down and trying it again next year.

Review of Standard Chartered Marathon 2007

To Thank list:

1. Mang, Running buddy who trained with me throughout for 4 consecutive marathons.
2. The bands from various schools playing for the runners in East coast park.
3. The volunteers for this event who furnish every runner with water, 100-plus, deep-heat, bananas, cheers and motivation. (You were part of the team, part of the reason we managed to finish the race.
4. To the cool weather on 2 December such that we could Run Easy.
5. To the countless number of supporters who came to support their friends and family. There was no difference. They cheered for everyone for even longer than some runners run.

To Remember list:

1. A runner who dedicated his marathon run to, "To Remember our fallen SPORTS comrades 2007."
2. To a couple who dedicated their marathon to each other.
3. To a runner who dedicated his run to, "My wife, who is still sleeping"

P.S. Number 1 on the to remember list really affected me much while I was near my exit at the East Coast park, it was 30km and I saw behind this runner. I was touched by him. I felt so much because my brother was an rower in his polytechnic days, even made captain! I also trained for a short stint when I was in polytechnic too.

To Note List:

1. It is not the timing that really matters when you are running. It is the people around you. The motivation you get to pull yourself back together. It is wonderful that meeting my running buddy again really made for a turn on the tables for me. From giving UP to giving MY BEST. Finishing hand in hand in a Triumphant spirit is all that counts.
2. I run because it teaches me patient.
3. There is really fun to be made cheering to Hydration salts and Isotonic Drinks.
4. With all the mental built-up in being motivated/motivating/thought of giving up/frustration, that is why crossing the finishing line is always SWEET.

Culture in Myanmar

So, the Asean Summit is in Singapore now, from the 18 November to 22 November 2007. Which brings us to a little history lesson. Almost every country have been a colony of the bigger European countries back then. Singapore was a British Colony. Malaysia was part of British India and so was then-Burma, now Myanmar. Vietnam had a war with USA back then.

So there is this issue of Myanmar's monks. They were really held under distress by the military and forced to remain in silence. Held by violence. In September this year, there was bloodshed when the monks protest against the repressive military government.

Why did the monks take it in their own hands? They are supposed to be the peace-loving people. Staying out of politics. It all so happened when Burma under colonial rule. The monks also known as "pongyis" (meaning 'great glory') were highly regarded by its people and thus exercised great influence on the people. They played a pivotal role in the anti-colonial, nationalist struggle in the eighteen century.

The monks had a record, a tradition of opposing existing power and thus, here they are demonstrating against the military rule in Myanmar now. They are standing out against the mishandling of the country's economy. They are indeed true to their tradition playing a role in the political of their country.

Trip to Tibet rally point

So there is a minor confusion going on. Mang will be in Hongkong attend his cousin's wedding in May 2008 and Stuart will be Guangzhou, China and Hongkong with his parents for the same period.

Which brings us to this. Four of us plus Benny may be meeting in Shenzhen Railway station or Guangzhou, MacDonald's. The idea is that we will be taking separated flights and meet in a foreign country. Hey, we are grown ups. So where should we meet next time? At Changi International Airport, nope. The further from our homeland the better.

Adidas Marathon 2007 site

This site got a Runners' Story Page.

I play a part in this site and shared my story with the endurance sports community. Here is the link and this is my page.

The story is also to pay tribute to Mang for being such a wonderful buddy cum coach for all the running. Well, with regards to the 'naked photo'. It is taken after the HK marathon in March 2007.

Impossible is Nothing.

Quote Mang shared with me. "We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves." Woo...

_______________________________________________________________
Woohoo... Mang is so excited that this story is online. And that we should actually publicized this. Oh well, I just say I'm proud that we are in this together. Common interests makes friends bond.

Out of Focus

Ever since I got back from my trip from Taiwan, ROC. My life have been out of focus. Well, I need to set some immediate goals to get it back on track. Its miserable being out of focus, letting my body get the better of me, turning up late for work. I need to take charge again.

Right now, this song so speaks for me.

Night Scenery In Taipei

For Taipei, there are really 2 places you could go to for night scenery. The first night, I was at Taipei 101, and through the Tallest Building in Taiwan, I saw the Miramar Ferris Wheel. The following night, I was at the Miramar at Da Zhi, Taipei. Getting on the queue into the top storey of Taipei 101 cost NTD350. Compete with a receiver which speaks many languages depicting the construction of the building.

View Atop Taipei 101, spot the Ferris Wheel? and I like the simple reflections.

Having fun with the 101 Building

Going on a ride on the Miramar Ferris Wheel cost NTD200 and it is a 15 minutes ride. I can't wait for our own one in Singapore to be done. Ours should be huge, perhaps larger. The Miramar Ferris Wheel is build on top of the building which is a cineplex and NTD990 will get you 2 movie tickets, 2 Ferris Wheel tickets and a combo for the movie.

Thank you, Alyssa for playing host and going with me for sight seeing.

David Tao Concert in Taipei 26 Oct 07 Review

Wonderful concert, completely different from the ones I went for earlier, this is one concert in Taipei and I realised the locals are really modest, in the way that they do not stand up and sing along. I was a bit high to his music but it seems awkward to be cheering for him alone, the girls beside me were so quiet. It seems like I had disturb them if I did stand up.

David Tao really impressed with his brand of "Soul" music. Ever since, he cut his first album in 1997. That's it, I grew up with his music. What could I do, his Love Can World Tour skipped Singapore somehow, Taipei is the destination. Since it is the nearest available one. He had planned Singapore/Malaysia this tour but the dates are unannounced yet.

THE MUSIC

Taipei Arena aka 小巨蛋. David Tao as dedicated to his music swears he had imported the audio systems from Shanghai and gotten a Team of Audio people from Hongkong to man the system. The very night after the concert, my ears were deafening. There seems to be a bee in my ears the whole night.

THE SHOW

The stage. Lots of laser, no fireworks.

He totally remaked and remixed songs like 今天你要嫁給我 and Susan Says 蘇三說 and this is the first concert he actually sing other artistes' songs. There is this segment in the concert which he sang 10:30的飛機場, he sang halfway and left, driving to the airport in a Volkswagen (a sponsor) and everyone was really thrilled when he actually drove the Volkswagen into the stage.

THE STORY

DT has a song called 孫子兵法. While he was singing this song, the screen was really showing all the events on the calender happening on September 11. He had really amassed many events of great misfortune. His purpose of showing this: Wishing that the world has more LOVE and lesser WARFARE, lesser TERRORISM.

This is one concert which David Tao touched many sitting audiences with his music. A Spectacle. I enjoyed myself. Thank you Wanlin for being there with me. I know you enjoyed the concert too.

Manifesting MONEY

A week ago, I was telling my to get $20,000 in my current bank account in say the next 3 months. And as I will be embarking on Taiwan tomorrow. What I had wanted had came true. This is totally amazing.

I'm now holding $20,000 in cold hard cash. NTD. That is. So, the next time you set your mind on something, BE SPECIFIC. Think USD or even POUNDS.

But what happened really shocked me. It is working for you. It could happen for you.

Banging onto a Taxi

Growing up is about sharing. My buddy have been sharing with me his experiences of reading a book about Triathlon Training. He is really inspired by the book.

Blogging is about sharing. So, I would like to share a short story here about me knocking onto a Taxi. It was a unfortunate weekday morning. I was reversing out of my car park lot and then "WHAM BANG". I bang into this SMART Taxi. The side of the boot was really dented. We got out of our own vehicles, exchanged particulars and left the scene. Shortly, both of us went to report to our respective insurance companies.

What happened after this is really shocking, I received my very FIRST lawyer's letter. And it is really good to share the details.

Besides the normal claims from the workshop, items claimed includes.
1. Taxi Rental for 5 days: works out to be around $400.
2. Taxi driver's income for 6 days: works out to be $120 per day.

Wow. Figured out I got my insurance really well worth the money. Talk about value for money.

And my next lawyer's letter would be a HUGE INHERITANCE from a distant uncle.

Bukit Timah Reserve Running Route

Was at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to clock junk miles on the 7 October 2007 after a hard night's of partying.

It was my first time there but I really appreciate and like the running route I went through. All thanks to experienced runner Mr Mang. This running buddy of mine had been talking about this running route for the past 3 marathons. Over the last 3 marathons, we never went there together for training. He really picked up the nice running route during his army days.

I would like to share the running route with everyone. This circuit route must have been carefully planned out and it entails the runner utmost satisfaction and achievement. One of the best runs you could possibly have in Singapore.

Here it goes.
1. "Steep Slope" - Walk all the way up the steep slope before starting your run. (It is really enough a steep slope to warm you up. Take small steps up if you really need to run.)

2. Main Road - Follow the nice concrete main road all the way up to Bukit Timah Summit. (It is a nice winding gradual slope to the summit. While at the summit, enjoy the fresh air.)

3. Rock path - Run down the main road till you hit the rock path. Get into the rock path (Here, you are running in the terrain, though there are nice paths, you may need a little climbing at times.) Get round the rock path and out till you hit the main road again.

4. Rengas Path - From the main road, run up the gradual slope to give your thighs a good workout till you hit the Rengas Path. (Things start getting interesting when you are in the Rengas path. You could either go the long loop and finish off Dairy Farm Loop or hug and finish off the North View Path.)

5. North View Path - Within the Rengas Path, hit the North View Path. (We took the this shorter route as we wanted to familiarize the the surroundings.) From here, you could hit Seraya Loop. This is nice gradual slope for you to enjoy the run and cool weather the rainforest offers.

6. Seraya Loop - From Seraya Loop, seek out the Jungle Fall path. (Enjoy the run in the trail and you will occasionally meet some couples along the way)

7. Jungle Fall Path - Jungle Path path is really where the satisfaction comes in. Here, you will meet with the "Monsters". The route is gradual upslope till you hit the steps with the Jungle Path. The steps are high and they really slow you down.
Finish about 134 steps around 30cm in height and you are through to the main road.

8. Main road - This is the cool down and ending of the circuit where you really breeze through the down slope.

The achievement comes in when you have a gradual up slope all along and den "BANG", there is mighty upslope of steps you have to clear. Once out of the Jungle path, you are really thankful and appreciative.

The directions may not be clear so I attached a map with this entry. I will add in directions(as in Left, Right turns) once I can call Bukit Timah Nature Reserve my playground. Try it out for yourself.

David Tao Concert in Taipei

Just as you would thought that the whole world given up on you. Fret not. Believe and you will LIVE your DREAM.

I always wanted to watch David Tao Live. Been a fan of his since I was introduced to his music in 1998. The only concerts that he is having now are all based in Mainland, China. Last year, David Tao "LOVE CAN" World Tour concert, he really skipped Singapore and only went to Malaysia. This year, 2007, DT is having in concert in Taiwan, Taipei on the 26,27 October.

Asked a few friends to come along with me to Taipei for his concert, but it is really crazy to go out of Singapore for a concert. Again, I want to say, THIS ain't any concert, ITS Hennessy ARTISTRY 軒尼詩 陶吉吉1.2.3我們都是木頭人. Well, I really do not find any english name for the concert, but the name of the name seems commercial and edgy to me.

Really have to thank Wanlin for wanting to come to watch the concert with me. Well, she is residing in Taiwan, so she will play hostess this time round. And I'm damn bloody touched to have her say she will pick me up from the airport in Taipei. This friend is a keeper.

I will do a review of the DT Taipei Concert after the concert.

KTV session

I called Taiwan but failed to find someone to go with me to David Tao Concert in Taipei, Taiwan on the 26/27 Oct. Of course, I could really go to Taiwan alone and I think I will enjoy the concert too. Its really part of me to want to see David Tao LIVE and share it with someone, because a lot of his songs are so special to me.

Now, 30 September was special, I meet up with Terry and his fiancee, Wenxin, managed to call long-lost friend Zyn out. She was really excited about congratulating the couple on their plans to have each other for the rest of their life.

We had dinner at Sun with Moon restaurant at wheelock place, this place, Terry claims that usually it takes 3 days advance booking to get table. Oh, the food is still good but not as popular as last time. They have a new branch at Central Mall too. Good food, considering it turn Zyn, someone who detest and never like sushi, to fall prey to peer pressure and actually LIKED the swordtail sashimi.
The grill oysters with bacon. Delicious.

After which, we went to 10 dollars KTV at chinatown for a hearty session of KTV. the crowd was small and comfortable. I had 2 great singers with me and I really enjoyed myself. Suddenly. 孫燕姿. I feel so much for the song. Zyn's rendition of the song was damn bloody good.

張惠妹- 人質 live
柯有伦 - (零)- Damn HIGH...healthy without any alcohol. Thank you, brudda Terry, always good to be singing with you around. No wonder, I think this must be one of the many reasons why Wenxin is so stuck to you. Kudos.
柯有綸 - 兩敗俱傷 - Wow, the female lead attractive man. Now, I say Alan Kuo's music is really underrated. I appeal for him. Support his music.

At the end of the day, I was really touched because it was a long time someone called and asked if I got home safely. Thank you. I appreciated it.

Why would there be more Marathon Enthusiasts in Singapore?

After finishing the book _Freakonomics_, I ought to do a book review, ha, something I never do for N number of years. But the book is really good and as soon I finished reading the book, I passed the book to Terry.

It is really a good read, considering my last book Think and Grow Rich took me like 9 months to complete, I finished reading the book in like 2 weeks. Fast. Freakonomics sets me thinking and lets me ask more questions.

Why would there be only more participants for marathons in Singapore over the years?

Men

Singaporean guys go through national service, a conscript army, but the training has never been compromised, almost of the combat fit soldiers are introduced to long distance running in their 2 years of service. Having to do a 10km run in the first year and another 21km run in the second year of service for the ARMY HALF MARATHON held every year.

Like it or not, the soldiers have to bite their teeth and go through the run, be it some may walk, some strive to challenge themselves and go for the record, training real hard for the event. After their national service, the enthusiasts will continue to take part in events and hence more participants each year. The nation is really doing their part by attracting more people into the sports. For the men running, its really a manhood thing, going longer distances.

Women

Advertisers and merchants have been targeting the ladies with say Ladies Card, a credit card that is only targeted at ladies. Hence the slogans, The Men Don't Get it.
Now for the health "buff" ladies, there are the Shape Run and the Great Eastern Women 10k run. So as per the statement, there is a kid in all of us. The ladies will do progressive training and go on to take part in a full marathon one day. Hence, more men and women are taking part in marathons, trying out endurance sports and going for biathlons and triathlons.

What really intrigues me is that, I think I found a new location that the Standard Chartered Marathon is going to. Dubai. And no doubt, they market and termed their marathon as the Richest Marathon on earth. Why? There is a prize money of USD 1 million on the table and another bonus of USD 1 million for the record breaker.

Globalization

Definition of globalisation
Question: What is the truest definition of Globalization?
Answer: Princess Diana's death.

WHY?
An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel, driving a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you change the spelling), followed closely by Italian Paparazzi, on Japanese motorcycles; treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines.

This was originally sent to you by a Canadian, using Bill Gates's technology,
and you're probably reading this on your computer, that uses Taiwanese chips, and a Korean monitor, assembled by Bangladeshi workers in a Singapore plant, transported by Indian lorry-drivers, hijacked by Indonesians, unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen, and trucked to you by Chinese illegals.....

Happy Birthday to the Virgos..

Backpacking Trips

These few days, I'm certainly sucked into the dynamics of traveling. I am really fortunate to have resourceful friends who is really turning into travel advisers. In Benny, he is able to fish out the good websites for information. In Stuart, the discussions they shared over email is simply enticing the pack of 4. We are screaming, we cant' wait to go. Let's go tomorrow, but we do have to wait for Benny to complete his studies, after all, we are planning a 2 months trip.

Things that I learn
1. Visa - I like to think that Singapore has done a good job in keeping good diplomatic ties with other countries. Singaporeans are granted 3 months stay in Japan. Bravo. Whereas flying into China will grant a 30 day visa while embarking onto China by LAND will give a 14 day visa.

2. While in the comfort zone of being born in Singapore, the longest journey within Singapore may just be the result of a traffic jam on weekends. A long wait of the MRT is really the result of the crowd during after office hours. Imagine taking a train for 49 hours to go from Guangzhou to Lahsa. Whilst, there may be other activities to do on the train, I seriously do not know how my body for react to the long ride, considering I only been through 14 hours bus journey from Singapore to Thailand, HatYai.

There should be more things to learn from this. I could really sign off by saying, EVERYONE IS IGNORANT, ONLY ON DIFFERENT SUBJECTS.

Taller in the morning

Do you realized that you are actually taller in the morning. I was amused that my rear-view mirror was in a lower position when I was driving in the morning so I think I may actually be taller in the morning. Once I Googled, and I found out I was actually right. But it was too much scientific information to digest.

Of course, the explanation is really...There is a slight difference in height from the morning to evening but it may not be measurable. While the body is resting at night the discs take in water to replenish and nourish them.

Rainie Yang with Jellyfish hairstyle 缺氧

This song got very strong similarity to Fan Xiao Xuan's Oxygen (氧氣) They use similar techniques to sing the songs. Taking in deep breaths and letting the breathing be heard in the singing. Compare between the 2 MVs. One shot this year and another one way back in 1998. Well, both songs got something to do with oxygen.

David Copperfield in Singapore

View the above video, it is entertaining but I really think it is a trick somewhere with the lightings and such. If he really could do it. I say, David Copperfield had sold his soul to the devil.

Btw, he will be in Singapore from the 2 and 3 of November for David Copperfield, World of Wonder performance. Anyone interested?

Books community

I was really taken aback by the power of the "law of attraction". I was thinking of getting a new book to read after completing NAPOLEON HILL's Think of grow rich. It is really a interesting book but I'm just so much of a reader. I chanced upon borders and times bookshop and brought 3 titles home.

After a conversation with friends, I got a few more books back at home.

Titles in my hands now
1. Rich Dad Poor Dad (Robert T. Kiyosaki)
2. Cashflow Quadrant (Robert T. Kiyosaki)
3. Think and Grow Rich (Napoleon Hill)
4. The Secret (Rhonda Byrne) - Law Of Attraction
5. The Secret Revealed (James L. Garlow) - Look at the book above from a Christian's perspective
6. Freakonomics (Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Bubner)
7. Tuesday with Morrie (Mitch Albom) courtesy of Terry Peh
8. Men are from Mars, Women from Venus (John Gray) courtesy of Terry Peh

Listed above are the titles I have in my hands, any friends interested in any of the above, contact me. Or anyone has any books to recommend me to read, pass it to me some day.

Homecoming

I had to make a trip to our Changi International Airport to fetch a business friend. After finding a car park lot in the especially crowded terminal 2, I made my way to Arrival Hall. What greet me was not my friend when I first step into Arrival Hall but this young lady.

There was this young lady with teary eyes, looking past me. The look was faint with the tears yet focused.Looking beyond me me was a Chinese man with his "supposed" mother. The old lady was on clutches but determined to come welcome the young lady. The young lady after brushing against me, dashed to the man and they had a big hug.

He who never leave home, never know the joy of returning.

I wondered how long she was away but she definitely missed her family her in Singapore.

Singapore Bay Run Pictures.

(Btw, Army friends if you look carefully, Col Lowerence Chua is behind me)

Oh, the certificate and photo came in for the Singapore Bay Run. I look pretty shagged yeah? Haha.. it takes a few races to perfect the look and the victory gestures with both hands. Now that I got the victory sign with both my hands, its really time to perfect the look(shagged but satisfied look). It does not matter to me anymore that my eyes are not visible in photos, its really small and I know.

Well, the timing for this run is not exactly good, but the timing is a nice number 02:01:18:18(official chip timing)

Hope Torture

The best thing one can do for someone who loves her is of course loving her, loving each other. right? To reciprocate and love each other.

But if she doesn't love him, she shouldn't leave any hopes for him because even the smallest hope can be a tremendous torture to him. Now this is HOPE TORTURE. Kill off any amount of hope no matter how small and the girl may be doing a credit to the guy.

Ex-hostages say they were given gift of life

Yup, 19 South Korean Hostages were finally freed after 6 weeks in the hands of Guerrillas in southern Afghanistan.

Only after they were freed that they know 2 of their fellow men were killed in demand of release of Taliban prisoners. It is cruel ain't it, considering these South Korean were Christians(Doctors and medical staff) on a mission to help the misfortune in Afghanistan, with their kindness being returned with ruthlessness.

Now that the hostages are free, the Saem-Mul Presbyterian church at Bundang on the outskirts of Seoul has also come in for strong public criticism for organising what was seen as a reckless trip.

The group ignored foreign ministry warnings against travel to Afghanistan, where more than 1,000 South Korean Christians were deported en masse last year because of security concerns.

Let us hope that kindness will beget kindness, but well if kindness is not returned, continue to do good ANYWAY, cause it will eventually turn out good.

Grey's Anatomy awakening

Dr. Meredith Grey: At some point, you have to make a decision. Boundaries don't keep other people out. They fence you in. Life is messy. That's how we're made. So, you can waste your lives drawing lines. Or you can live your life crossing them. But there are some lines... that are way too dangerous to cross.

Dr. Meredith Grey: A couple of hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success. Never leave that till tomorrow, he said, which you can do today. This is the man who discovered electricity. You think more people would listen to what he had to say. I don't know why we put things off, but if I had to guess, I'd have to say it has a lot to do with fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, sometimes the fear is just of making a decision, because what if you're wrong? What if you're making a mistake you can't undo? The early bird catches the worm. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can't pretend we hadn't been told. We've all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our grandparents warning us about wasted time, heard the damn poets urging us to seize the day. Still sometimes we have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today's possibility under tomorrow's rug until we can't anymore. Until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin really meant. That knowing is better than wondering, that waking is better than sleeping, and even the biggest failure, even the worst, beat the hell out of never trying.

Wrap up for August 2007

Hmmm, highlights for the month of August. Was ill for slightly more than a week early august after visiting the night safari on the 4th.

Had a blog entry which I believed touched a few hearts. Had a long awaited mini holiday to KL_Genting in Mid August.

I missed out a blog entry dedicated for this trip. But well, I think I made some people turn their heads for the ladies with this collage. I really like the KL Twin Towers. They are beautiful. I never liked the Taipei 101 building when I was there back in May.

Genting is really a place for relaxation and there's about it. The food is expensive and all of us don't seem to want to spend much in Malaysia. I sure did enjoyed my Wu Bai and China Blue concert over in Genting when Wu Bai executed his dancing moves.

Come to the closing of August, its my birthday, like usual, I got many many friends wishing me a Happy Birthday and I truly appreciate all your well-wishes. Never really celebrated my birthday, lest having my family sing a birthday song for me and my mum cook mee suan for me. Thank you mum.

The very next day, try as I want, I could not make it to the proposal site for Terry and Wenxin. A look at their videos here and it was really touching. You would find 2 videos with the links and there is really another one on youtube but it is supposed to be a private video.

Just today, I was made messenger for my friends. I had to inform B that A could not attend a function with B because A had to be working on Saturday. Complicated right, thinking that A is worried that B will be alone for the function but did not want to go. I got myself confused narrating this bit.

Facts about money

1. More of our fantasies are about money... than sex.

2. If we could have any luxury in the world (and money didn't matter) more of us would choose to spend money on a butler and a maid than anything else.

3. 90% of Americans who own pets buy them Christmas gifts.

6. For $10,000,000 most of us would do almost ANYTHING! Including abandoning our family and friends and our church. A very high percentage of us would, for that same amount of money, change our race or sex. And, 1 in every 14, would even murder someone for ten million bucks.

What's really strange about this is, the statistics remain the same whether it's ten million dollars all the way down to three million. For three million bucks, most of us would do the same horrible things we would do for ten million. But, guess what? Few of us would do these things for a "measly" two million.

7. 92% of us would rather be rich than find the love of our lives.

11. Nearly half of the people who sell their houses with furniture included will take all the light bulbs out of all the lamps when they vacate the premises.

15. Do people care if their bills are crisp? Indeed, they do. Fresh, crisp, clean bills are considered much more valuable than those which are old, wrinkled and dirty.

I once sent a 'dollar bill thank you' letter to a guy who sent a sincere letter back to me bitching the free $1 bill I sent him was wrinkled instead of crisp as I had described in the letter.

16. Let's flip a coin and try to guess whether it will come up heads or tails. Three times as many people guess 'heads' than 'tails'.

30. Two-thirds of Americans say they wouldn't let their spouse spend the night and have sex with another person for a million dollars. Many of these people are liars. There's a big difference being asked if they would do it for a million dollars... as opposed to... handing them a paper sack containing the million fungolas and simply saying, "Here, you can have this if you'll let me sleep with your sweetie tonight."

41. Which would you rather do: Shop till you drop... or... have great sex?

For men, this is a no-brainer.

However, more women would actually rather have an unlimited shopping spree than spend a weekend with a fabulous lover. In fact, the #1 favorite fantasy of women is to have a blank check to shop at their favorite store.

The favorite fantasy of men (at least in my opinion) is what we would like to DO to the sales girl... rather than... what we would like to buy from here.
_____________________________________________________________________________
These are the few that I really like and they are extracted from here. There are really 42 of them here. But well, it is the American version. Some, I don't agree with in our context.

Singapore Bay Run 2007 Review

Went for the 21 km half marathon on Sunday 26 august 2007. It was a good run starting at an earlier time of 5.30am. Phew. It was early. It was really crowded and the crowd could never be overtaken. Ha ha, I was late for the whistle blow for flag off.

Was really blurry at 5.30am, playing with my digital watch and later realized that it was my "Timer" instead of skipping my "Stopwatch" function. Cock up 1.

The run was well-organized with lots of water-points till the end. The only big big complaint was there was a messed-up at the baggage deposit/collection point at the end of the run. The baggage was really tagged to the participants race bibs but it ended up the people at the collection got confused or something. It was chaotic. One of my friend ended up queuing and waited 2 hours for his bag. Cock up 2.

All and all, I did enjoyed the run was it was good training for the marathon at the end of the year.

To probably every participants' dismay, the Singapore Bay Run marked the fourth endurance race death in two years.

Terry's Wedding Proposal

Terry...Brother YOU did it and she say "Yes". A resounding yes. Power! But I have to complain la, you set the standard so high man, it would be hard to plan for another wedding proposal, ermmm, I mean our own ones. I reached Sentosa late, missing the proposal procedures and then the guys were asking me when I getting married. All seems to be very inspired by you. I brushed them off, hey, I'm single now.

Okay, to the pictures.

Proposing at the Underwater World in Sentosa.

Proposing with placards, I like this one the most. Its cliche but it is really touching to want to say this to anyone. This is not sweet-nothings, it is the thought of wanting to so with your loved one.

Skipping the you know question. And the answer is...

Aftermath, dinner at Tripizza along Siloso Beach.

Songs of the sea (what used to be Musical fountain) with fireworks and pyrotechnics.

Oh..the couple..Happy Beginning....

Singapore Bay Run 2007

Today is the expo cum collection of the race pack for the Singapore Bay Run. This is the National Day of Singapore month and this run marks our nations birthday by letting the runners end their run at the Marina Bay National Day Parade Floating Platform. Woohoo.

Collection of the race pack at SAFRA Toa Payoh was prompt and that was no crowd when I was there at 10 past 5. But I must say the hall for the collection was small and rundown. Perhaps, this is because maybe say 80% of the participants are from the ARMY and their race pack are deliver to their camp.

Well, good thing there was ample parking lots when I went.

P.S Sweet. If I leave it at that. This post will be the 9th post of august which is also our national day.

Khalil Fong - Traveling Quartet 四人遊

This MV depicts that both the male and female lead are in a very sticky situation. Both of them are attached but it seems that they are still attracted to each other. The lyrics suggests that they will prowl on each other when one is out of their uneasy relationship with their respective boy/girl friends. Ohhhhh.....

Seen the doctor

So I had been sick for one week before I finally seen the doctor. So what was I given?

1. Dhasedyl - It's for cough and on the net, people are confessing that they take it as a sleeping aid. Does my family want me to sleep better? Been losing sleep because of this online game. The Desktop Tower Defense. Dun click. you will get hooked too. It's fun and addictive.

2. Cefalexin - is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. See wikipedia. I don't understand the scientific terms.

3. Terbutaline - Now these are the ones that may cause palpitation or tremors. I really like this one because this is really effective in removing the phlegm from me. Hmmm, quick check and this is really to treat trouble breathing in asthmatic cases. Oops, childhood asthma coming back to haunt me.

4. Chlorpheniramine - These are my favorite, the little yellow pills one will take when he down with flu or the common cold. I will have leftovers from my last illness and I will pop one before I go to sleep and usually it will stop the running nose the next day.

2nd Korean Killed in Afghanistan

18 Korean Christians, including 15 women, kidnapped in Afghanistan on 19 July, 2007. A second Korean was killed yesterday. They were kidnapped by the Taliban and held hostages in exchange for 23 Taliban rebels captured by the Afghan government.

Whatever is happening is scary, these Korean went on a peace mission but were held hostages and 2 are killed. Is this terrorism? Terrorism is his name. Globalization may just be the cause of it. As the world becomes smaller, the good heart are not confined to spaces and they really want to get out and help the more unfortunate. They are in danger and the whole of South Korean mourns for them. It is making headlines around the world. Their family are the worse-off here, knowing that their loved ones are in tremendous danger but could not do a thing.

I plead for the Kidnapped Koreans here to be released. I hope my "voice", no matter how small, could be heard by someone out there.

Prayers for the Koreans.

Pet peeves

Know what a pet peeve is? A pet peeve (or pet hate) is a minor annoyance that can instill great frustration in an individual.

Read more from Wikipedia and all about the pet peeves from people around the world. My PetPeeves

Okay, so what's my own pet peeve?
1. I get really frustrated, extremely annoyed when I get into a car park and I see other cars behind parked very badly. See parking idiots I could just start to curse and swear. Beats me why.

Some of my close friends' pet peeves
Stuart: cannot stand nagging women (who can?)
Jackie: cannot stand nagging women too (I think he copied Stuart's)
Zyn: cannot stand any minty sweet aka SMITH(no smith, no kiss) because it smells like toothpaste (Morning is the only time you put mint in your mouth?)

So, what is your pet peeve? Do share with me.

Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 07

Okie..1 crazy friend of mine said he wants to join the half marathon for this year's event. I told him one must reach a milestone and complete 5 marathons. So having did one this year in HONG KONG and another one later in the year. He is considering hanging up his running shoes. Tsz Kit. Trust me you will keep running.

Today I went out and applied for Singapore BAY RUN scheduled for 26 August. It is really a half marathon 21km. And with my 4th marathon coming in december. It would be back to the discipline of running once every week. Though many many veterans say this is not enough.

Till then, after I reach my milestone, I will confront the scientific truth and see a specialist. My ankle hurts.

Love

"Do you love me because I'm beautiful,
or am I am beautiful because you love me?" ~ Oscar Hammerstein, II

"Have you even been in love? Horrible, isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses. You build up this whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...

You give them a piece of you. They don't ask for it. They do something dumb one day like kiss you, or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so a simple phrase like "maybe we should just be friends" or "how very perceptive" turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love." ~ in Sandman: The Kindly Ones by Neil Gaiman

Singapore Airlines Online Reservation System

Our National Airline..Singapore Airlines has an online Reservation System that is fast and effective. But it is being downplayed by the lack of a function for the user to change the Iternary easily online.

I had to call their reservation line and wait for almost 20 minutes before getting to a human voice(It was all being digitised before getting to the operator). But I must say that once gotten through to the operator, the lady was helpful and could immediately retify my problem. It was hassle-free, not considering the long wait to get to the operator.

Thank god. I think Singapore Airlines (SIA) still deserve to be the best Airline in the world. And last year, Singapore Changi Airport was the best Airport. Let's hope that Singapore Changi Airport will it again this year.

Donuts Factory 7 hours wait

Of cos, it is not me who queued up for 7 hours for the DONUTS from donuts factory. Everyone is crazy about the donuts. It certainly have many many flavours. They looked and tasted yummy. Worth the long wait of 7 hours? You decide.Know why I filed this entry under self-help? Know why my sister could queue for 7 hours for the donuts. For her, it is really LOVE. She got 2 boxes, 1 box for the family and 1 box for her boyfriend's family.
____________________________________________
So what does the donuts taste like?
Weipeng(Happily dancing to the tunes of Shakira): The "double chocolate" has got white chocolate as a coating on the outside with milk chocolate on the inside. When your teeth engages into the donut, the melted milk chocolate rushes into your taste buds and screams "*****" (feels like the first you had your first kiss, supple and tender). The melted milk chocolate on the inside is not too sweet or intense. The donuts could really lift anyone's spirits and make you forget about the whole day's hard work.

Creativity

Dear Son,

I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my potato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up
garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me.

Love Dad

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Dad,

For heaven's sake, Dad, don't dig up that garden, that's where I buried the BODIES.

Love Son

At 4am the next morning, F.B.I . agents and local police showed up and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Dad,

Go ahead and plant the potatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.

Love Son
